Year 7 and 8 overview of topics studied.
The Science Department at Rushcroft is committed to making science interesting and relevant to all pupils. At Key Stage 3 we offer a modern, practical based curriculum which is taught to Years 7 and 8. The course prepares pupils for their end of Key Stage Assessment. It also equips them with skills to access the science curriculum at KS4
At Key Stage 4 (Years 9 to 11) we currently study the OCR Gateway Science course. All students do the core and additional science to obtain 2 GCSEs, while more able students have the option of choosing to study 3 separate sciences (Chemistry, Physics and Biology) and obtaining 3 GCSEs for this.
A key component of our lessons is exposure to a wide variety of experiments. Teachers in the Department have a strong belief that the only way to grasp concepts in science is by actually doing science. We have excellent resources to enhance the changing dynamics of science in the 21st Century.
The school also takes students on trips to the Science Museum, London Zoo and Royal Observatory. There is a strong belief that learning outside the classroom motivates students to understand the applications of science in the real world to foster an even stronger learning ethos in the classroom.
We have introduced the formation of the STEM club, which targets the Year 8 Brilliant Club students.
